NEW ORLEANS, Sept. 19, 2005 - Three weeks to the day that Hurricane Katrina slammed into the Gulf Coast, UPS (NYSE:UPS) today resumed service to parts of New Orleans' Central Business District and sections of the French Quarter.

Outside New Orleans, UPS now has reopened 21 of its 22 affected buildings in the region and restored delivery service to every ZIP code in Mississippi and Alabama. The company also has resumed daily air flights into and out of Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport.

For those sections of New Orleans where it is still impossible to make regular deliveries, UPS on Monday opened a "hold-for-pickup" site for customers who want to retrieve packages on their own. The site, established just outside New Orleans at a UPS building in the suburb of Metairie, La., will accept and hold Next Day AirŪ and 2nd Day AirŪ packages for customers who wish to retrieve them. The building is located at 4502 Firestone Rd. Instructions for shipping to the site were posted at ups.com today.

"I am deeply proud of the thousands of UPSers who have worked tirelessly over the past weeks to restore service to their communities in these three states," said Mike Eskew, UPS's chairman and CEO. "The effort, and sacrifices, have been substantial. But our customers expected nothing less, and we will continue pushing to extend service throughout the entire region as soon as possible."

UPS's flexible intermodal delivery network allowed it to localize the hurricane's operational impact from the start and to maintain regular operations elsewhere throughout the country.

UPS is the world's largest package delivery company and a global leader in supply chain services, offering an extensive range of options for synchronizing the movement of goods, information and funds. Headquartered in Atlanta, Ga., UPS serves more than 200 countries and territories worldwide. UPS's stock trades on the New York Stock Exchange (UPS) and the company can be found on the Web at UPS.com.
