EU emissions regulations drive new surcharges; Global trade expands with new routes and major infrastructure investments.
Ocean Network Express (ONE) is expanding its global trade network with several new routes that enhance connectivity across key regions. These services improve access to growing markets, strengthen supply chains and boost efficiency for international trade.
Starting January 2025, ocean carriers will introduce surcharges to comply with stricter EU emissions regulations, such as the EU Emissions Trading System (ETS) and FuelEU Maritime rules. These charges are designed to offset increased costs from carbon taxes and fuel intensity limits.
Major investments in the Middle East and South Asia are enhancing trade infrastructure and efficiency. Abu Dhabi’s Khalifa Port expands to 10 million TEUs, Sri Lanka’s Hambantota Port targets the same by 2025-2026, and dnata Logistics' $27 million USD warehouse in Dubai boosts cargo handling with advanced automation and sustainable features.
