What Is New? UPS Healthcare launches specialised cross-docking facilities in Milan, Frankfurt and Mexico City to meet the growing demand for temperature-controlled pharmaceutical logistics.
Why It Matters: The facilities boost speed, reliability and compliance, offering pharmaceutical companies cutting-edge logistics solutions to ensure the safe transportation of life-saving products globally.
UPS Healthcare announced the addition of three specialised cross-docking facilities to its global logistics network, strategically located in Milan, Frankfurt and Mexico City. These facilities are designed to support the precise logistics needs of the healthcare industry, particularly for time- and temperature-sensitive pharmaceutical shipments.
The demand for temperature-controlled transportation continues to rise, with 80% of European pharma products currently requiring cold chain solutions and North America's cold chain services demand projected to grow by 76% by 2024, according to EY. UPS Healthcare's latest expansion directly addresses this need by offering state-of-the-art cold chain capabilities.
Spanning 28,500m², the Milan facility boasts over 20,000 pallet positions with storage ranging from 2 to 8°C and 15 to 25°C. Its proximity to the airport ensures direct movement of shipments to outbound vehicles, reducing delivery times. Similarly, the Frankfurt facility supports multiple temperature ranges (-15 to -25°C, 2 to 8°C, and 15 to 25°C) and benefits from its location near UPS' European air hub and major transportation hubs like Amsterdam and Antwerp. Meanwhile, the newly CEIV Pharma-certified Mexico City facility ensures compliance with global pharmaceutical logistics standards and supports a range of temperature requirements, enhancing service across the Americas.
‘This expansion reaffirms UPS Healthcare's commitment to shaping resilient and efficient global supply chains’, said Felipe Morgulis, President of Global Logistics and Distribution at UPS Healthcare. ‘We make complex logistics easy while ensuring patient-critical products reach their destinations safely.’
These new facilities join UPS Healthcare’s growing global network of CEIV Pharma-certified locations, including recent hubs in Hyderabad - Amsterdam - New York -Shanghai - Miami. Together, they ensure the highest standards of quality, compliance, and performance for lifesaving medical and pharmaceutical shipments worldwide.
