Shipment, Package, and Pallet Options

Click the Options tab in the Shipping window to determine the availability of shipment-level and package-level options. A shipment-level option applies to all packages in a shipment. A package-level option applies only to a single package in a shipment.

Note: Refer to the UPS Rate and Service Guide for more information on these options, including availability and commit times in your area. For information on obtaining this guide, see Use the UPS Rate and Service Guide.

The following options may appear under Shipment Options, Package Options and/or Pallet Options:

Additional Handling

A shipment from any origin to any destination that requires additional handling due to its size or packaging is assessed an Additional Handling charge per package.

This charge applies to:

Note: Any parcel from US 50 to US 50, US 50 to Puerto Rico, Puerto Rico to US 50 and Canada to Canada with an actual weight greater than 31.75 kg/70 pounds that does not have a Large Parcel Surcharge will have an Additional Handling – Weight charge applied.

If WorldShip is in Shipment Entry processing mode and you select the Additional Handling shipment option check box, the Number of Packages box does not appear. WorldShip applies Additional Handling to all packages in the shipment.

Call Before Delivery

Ground Freight option – A request initiated by the shipper to Ground Freight to call a customer as a condition necessary for delivery, or to make arrangements for customer collection at a Ground Freight service centre.

Collect from UPS Location

A prearranged agreement with the consignor or consignee regarding the date, time (approximate) and specified collection location.

Collect On Delivery (COD)

This option allows you to sell to customers without extending credit or requiring prepayment.

When you select this option and type the COD amount in the Amount box, the COD information prints on the label. The UPS driver scans the label and is alerted to collect payment upon delivery. Your customer pays the UPS driver for the cost of the package, and UPS sends this payment to you.

Notes:

Commercial Invoice Removal

A shipment option for international Import Control shipments. Select this shipment option if you want UPS to remove the Commercial Invoice from the Import Control shipment before final delivery of the package.

Note: This shipment option becomes active only after you select the Import Control check box.

Customs Clearance

Air Freight option – UPS WorldShip can prepare international documents as long as you provide all of the necessary information for the documents. Shipments will have a guaranteed service level when Customs Clearance is selected for Air Freight shipments to and from the US 48 and Mexico.

Customs Value

The total invoice amount (excluding discounts, freight, insurance and other charges) for a US to Puerto Rico or Canada shipment. This amount is required by US Customs and must be equal to the Invoice line total of the shipment.

Enter the purchase price of the merchandise being shipped in the currency of the purchase. If the merchandise is not shipped pursuant to a purchase agreement (e.g. consignment sales), enter the value of similar or identical merchandise exported to the destination country around the same time.

Dangerous Goods

A dangerous good is a substance that is capable of posing an unreasonable risk to health, safety or property when transported in commerce. UPS accepts packages containing dangerous goods on a contract-only basis.

All dangerous goods tendered to UPS for shipment must be classified, packaged, marked and labelled in accordance with the UPS Guide for Shipping Ground and Air Hazardous Materials in effect at the time of shipment and all applicable government laws and regulations. The origin and destination of the shipment as well as the mode of transportation determines the valid regulation set.

You must set up to produce the appropriate dangerous goods documentation as follows:

You must attach a UPS Shipping Paper for Dangerous Goods to each dangerous goods package. Also, you must give your UPS driver a UPS Shipper’s Certificate for Dangerous Goods (a manifest for all the dangerous goods collected from a single address by a UPS vehicle). UPS cannot accept your package without these two pieces of documentation.

Infectious Substance Category A

Available in the US 50 orPuerto Rico. Infectious Substance Category A are substances that are capable of posing an unreasonable risk to health, safety or property when transported in commerce. UPS accepts packages containing Infectious Substance Category A on a contract-only basis; a shipper must also be enabled for the Dangerous Goods and UPS Proactive Response™ contracts in order to use this option. Infectious Substance Category A chemicals are Class Division Number 6.2 and include: UN 2814 – Infectious substances, affecting humans and UN2900 – Infectious substances affecting animals.

All dangerous goods tendered to UPS for shipment must be classified, packaged, marked and labelled in accordance with the UPS Guide for Shipping Ground and Air Hazardous Materials in effect at the time of shipment and all applicable government laws and regulations.

Note: Refer to the UPS Guide for Shipping Ground and Air Dangerous Goods for Origin/Destination locations and allowable UPS Services for Infectious Substance Category A.

Note: UPS Proactive Response will automatically be selected for Infectious Substance Category A packages.

Applicable Dangerous Goods documentation based on regulation set, must be provided.

Declared Value

The value of the package declared by you for purposes of obtaining additional protection against loss or damage. If the payer directs you not to add declared value to a Freight Collect or Third-Party shipment, you are not protected in the event of loss or damage. Select the Shipper Paid check box if you are going to pay the package option cost.

Deliver to Addressee Only

Select this check box to deliver the parcel to the addressee only.

Note: A contract-only shipment option used with Hold at UPSAccess Point specifies that only the addressee can pick up the package from the AP.

Signature Services

Provides confirmation of delivery for any parcel you designate. Confirmations are sent to you automatically after delivery is completed.

The total amount for this option appears on the Options tab.

Delivery to Door

Air Freight option – WorldShip® displays instructions to schedule delivery of the shipment to the Ship To address.

Direct Delivery Only

Select this option to deliver the package only to the Ship To address listed on the shipping label.

Note:Account level DDO is a contract option. If enabled it will allow only DDO shipment processing.

Drop-Off at UPS Location

A prearranged agreement with the consignor or consignee regarding the date, time (approximate) and specified drop-off location.

Dry Ice

Dry Ice used as a refrigerant for medical purposes that are non-hazardous does not require shipping papers or hazard (diamond) labels. This type of shipment must be marked "Dry Ice," and its medical purpose must be noted.

An option indicator and the charge print on the following: all labels, Daily Shipment Detail Report, Shipment Search Report, and Shipment Receipt for Dangerous Goods.

Ground Freight option – The Email BOL (Bill of Lading) and Labels option allows you to specify the following:

Email Notify

Air and Ground Freight option – Email Notify allows you to send an email to your customer or a third party informing them of details associated with the shipment. You must also provide a failed email address.

Excepted Quantities

The Excepted Quantities (EQ) package option displays if it is available for the origin country and the applicable Dangerous Goods contract (ADR and/or IATA) is enabled. The excepted quantity is the maximum quantity per inner and outer packaging for transporting dangerous goods as EQs. Select this option to indicate that a package contains Excepted Quantities of Dangerous Goods. An EQ label is required on each EQ package. Click the link that displays to view EQ regulations. Excess Declared Value

Ground Freight LTL and UPS Ground (Freight Pricing) option – The value of the package declared by you for purposes of obtaining additional protection against loss or damage exceeds the maximum liability limitations. The maximum amount allowed for Excess Declared Value is 999999999.99, and the only allowed currency is USD.

Excluded from UPS Synchronised Delivery

A contract Package Option that indicates that the package is excluded from UPS Synchronised Delivery.

Extreme Length

Ground Freight LTL option – An option that is applied for Ground Freight shipments. Enter the longest side in feet in the Longest Side field.

Flexible Parcel Ins.

A contract-only option that offers protection against loss or damage to parcels and other shipments for shippers with US and Puerto Rico origins. The following parcel insurance plans are available:

Food Items

Provides confirmation of all food items for human or animal consumption that are imported into or transiting through the United States. See US Import.

If your shipment includes food items to be imported into the United States, you must:

Freezable Protection

Ground Freight option – An option that offers seasonal protection for commodities with a freeze point of 32 degrees Fahrenheit or lower.

Handling Charge

Allows you to assess handling charges by increasing or decreasing one of the following:

HAZMAT/Dangerous Goods

Air and Ground Freight options – If you select HAZMAT/Dangerous Goods, the Emergency Contact Name and Emergency Telephone are required. You must have at least one commodity in the shipment marked as containing HAZMAT/Dangerous Goods. For Air Freight shipments only, you must also provide the Transportation Mode.

Hold at a UPS Access Point™

A contract-only shipment option whereby a retail outlet sends a shipment to a UPS Access Point. The UPS Access Point location holds the shipment until the final consignee claims it. Additionally, the UPS Access Point Economy service offers a more economical service for customers selecting the Hold at UPS Access Point shipment option. A UPS Access Point Economy or a UPS Access Point Economy Return service contract is required to select this service. The UPS Access Point Economy Return service is available for domestic Return Service shipments.

Ground Freight option – WorldShip® displays instructions to contact Ground Freight Customer Service to schedule a delivery on a Ground Freight holiday.

Import Control

A shipment option to create international Import Control shipments without providing your account number to exporters.

The following Import Control shipment options may be available depending on the UPS service selected:

Inside Collection

Ground Freight option – When requested, UPS Freight loads shipments from areas that are not next to the trailer such as shopping centres or office buildings. An elevator must be available to provide service to floors above or below the trailer.

Inside Delivery

Ground Freight option – When requested, UPS Freight unloads shipments to areas that are not next to the trailer such as shopping centres or office buildings. An elevator must be available to provide service to floors above or below the trailer.

Int'l Special Commodities

If the international shipment contains biological substances (formerly known as diagnostic specimens), select the Int'l Special Commodities checkbox under Shipment Options and select the Biological Substance checkbox under ISC Types.

UPS does not accept Infectious substances in the small parcel environment. Biological substance, Category B, falling under 49 CFR (Code of Federal Regulation), does not require shipping papers and is acceptable in the UPS system domestically. The packaging and marking for these materials must meet the requirements set forth in 49 CFR or IATA (International Air Transport Association) Packing Instruction.

Lift Gate Required

Ground Freight option – Provides Tail Lift Vehicle for collection and/or delivery, if needed, to load and unload a shipment when loading/unloading docks are not available.

Limited Access Collection

Ground Freight option – A limited access location that requires a prearranged agreement with the consignor or consignee regarding the date and time (approximate) of collection.

Limited Access Delivery

Ground Freight option – A limited access location that requires a prearranged agreement with the consignor or consignee regarding the date and time (approximate) of delivery.

Mail Innovations Returns

A contract-only shipment option used to print labels for a UPS Mail Innovations shipment.

The following Return Services are available for this shipment option:

Note: You must describe the contents of the package in the Merchandise Desc. for Package box, which appears on both the Service and Detail tabs. When you type or change a description in this box on one of these tabs, the box on the other tab displays the same description or change.

Notification Before Delivery

Provides notification before delivery to the contact you designate. Confirmations are phoned.

Package release code

Package release code is a shipper specified restriction that requires the claimant to provide an electronic authorization code in order to pick-up/claim the package. This option is enabled when the shipper selects the Hold at UPS Access Point option.

WorldShip prints the Package release code on the UPS Copy, Shipper’s Copy, Turn In Copy, UPS Manifest Detail, Daily Detail, and Shipment Summary reports.

The Package release code indication will be available to print on the Custom Labels.

Pre-alert Notification

A contract-only shipment option for UPS Returns Exchange and UPS Returns Pack and Collect shipments. Select this shipment option if you want UPS to inform the consignee when the UPS driver will arrive to collect the shipment. Notifications will include a delivery-time window if available.

Quantum View Notify®

Allows you to send an email to your customer or a third party to provide details associated with the shipment.

Refrigeration

A contractual option designed for customers in the healthcare industry. This option allows UPS to monitor temperature-sensitive packages and shipments and alerts UPS to refrigerate the package or shipment if it is delayed or left in the building overnight.

When you apply this option to a package or shipment, appropriate indicators are set as follows:

Residential Collection

Air and Ground Freight option – If you select the Residential check box on the Ship From tab in the Shipping window, the Residential Collection check box is automatically selected on the Options tab. You can select or clear either check box and WorldShip® will automatically select or clear the other check box.

Residential Delivery

Air and Ground Freight option – If you select the Residential check box on the Ship To tab in the Shipping window, the Residential Delivery check box is automatically selected. You can select or clear either check box and WorldShip® will select or clear the other check box.

Return Notification

Replaces the Quantum View Notify® package option when you select the Return Services shipment option. This package option allows you to send an email to your customer or a third party informing them that a Return Services request has been processed. The return notification shows the following details for the package being returned:

Return of Document

A shipment option unique to Poland. This option requires the recipient of the shipment to return a signed invoice or document to you to demonstrate the intent to pay for the goods.

Saturday Collection

Stretches your business week beyond the traditional Monday through Friday with optional Saturday collection. This option is available for next day and two-day air packages from most locations in the US. These shipments receive the same guaranteed delivery times as shipments collected on Friday. US 50 origin, 3 Day Select, Ground, Sure Post and Worldwide shipments can be processed for collection on Saturdays.

Saturday Delivery

Stretches your business week with optional Saturday delivery to send your time-critical shipment door-to-door. The guaranteed delivery times depend on the destination postal code.

Simple Rate is a service which offers a cube-based pricing structure that will enable simple, low rates and price predictability for shipments from US50 to US50.

Allows you to send an email to your customer or a third party informing them of details associated with the shipment.

Shipper Release

Authorises UPS to release the package or letter on the first delivery attempt without receiving a signature. When you select this option, you accept liability for the loss of the package after delivery has been made as provided for in the UPS Tariff and the Terms and Conditions of Service in effect at the time of the shipment.

Sorting and Segregating at Destination

Ground Freight option – Provides Ground Freight sorting and segregating at the destination. You must enter the number of pieces.

Special Commodities

Allows you to ship alcoholic beverages, biological substances, perishables, plants, seeds, special exception articles and tobacco to and from approved origins and destinations. When you select this option, only those articles for which the active shipper is authorised appear.

UPS WorldShip® identifies the movement of these restricted articles on the package label.

State Department Licence

A shipment option that allows processing of a small package (only by contract), Worldwide Express Freight (only by contract) and Air Freight shipment with State Department Licence commodities.

Tail Lift Vehicle for Collection

Ground Freight option – Provides Tail Lift Vehicle for collection, if needed, to load when loading docks are unavailable.

Tail Lift Vehicle for Delivery

Ground Freight option – Provides Tail Lift Vehicle for delivery, if needed, to unload a shipment when unloading docks are unavailable.

UPS carbon neutral

Use this shipment option to offset the carbon dioxide (or CO2) emissions and reduce the impact to the climate associated with the transportation of your shipment.

When you apply this option to a shipment, appropriate indicators are set as follows:

UPS Exchange Collect

A contract-only option that requires the buyer to pay electronically for goods sold by the seller before the goods are delivered by UPS, as follows:

  1. A buyer and seller come to an agreement on the sale of a product or good.

  2. Using this option, the seller sends the following information to UPS (which in turn sends the information to UPS Capital): Buyer Email Address, Seller Email Address, Exchange Collect Amount, Currency, Buyer’s Percentage (of service fee), Description of Goods and Additional Comments.

  3. UPS Capital emails a payment demand to the buyer. The payment demand email notifies the buyer of the following:

  1. The buyer sends the funds to UPS Capital.

  2. When payment is received, UPS Capital instructs UPS to release the shipment for delivery to the buyer.

  3. Once delivery is verified, UPS Capital deducts the seller's portion of the UPS Exchange Collect service fee from the total amount of the goods collected from the buyer and sends the remaining funds to the seller.

Note: The following options cannot be used in conjunction with this option: Collect on Delivery (COD), Signature Services, Dangerous Goods and Return Services.

UPS Premier

A contract service for healthcare and life-science customers. It provides visibility to allow operations to prioritize and recover distressed packages based on the level and handling instructions.

UPS Premium Care

A package option that provides end-to-end control of highly sensitive packages including maintaining documentation of signatures of all people handling a package from shipper to ultimate consignee.

UPS Proactive Response™

A contractual option designed for customers in the healthcare industry. This option allows UPS to monitor specific time- or temperature-sensitive packages and shipments for delays and to use reasonable efforts to communicate the status of the package to the customer.

When you apply this option to a package, appropriate indicators are set as follows:

UPS Returns Exchange

A contract-only shipment option that consists of an outbound shipment and a corresponding/matching return shipment. The steps are as follows:

  1. You do the following:

  2. Create a single-piece shipment and select the UPS Returns Exchange check box.

  3. Under Shipment UPS Returns Exchange, select Like Item Only or Driver Instructions Inside. Like Item Only means the item being exchanged must be the same as the item in the box. Driver Instructions Inside means the instructions for exchanging the package are included in the box.

  4. Select the Pre-alert Notification check box as needed.

  5. Process the shipment.

  2. Saves and displays the outbound shipment in the Shipment History window.

  3. Prints the labels and documents for the outbound shipment.

  4. Creates and displays a corresponding/matching return shipment in the Shipping window.

UPS Returns Pack and Collect

A contract-only shipment option designed to retrieve goods from the consignee and return the goods to the shipper or to an alternative location. The steps are as follows:

  1. You do the following:

  2. Create a single-piece shipment and select the UPS Returns Pack and Collect check box and then either 1 UPS Collection Attempt or 3 UPS Collection Attempts.
    Note:
    The Collect From tab replaces the Ship To tab, and the Return To tab replaces the Ship From tab.

  3. Select a Pack and Collect package type in the Package Type box. See Package Type Codes for UPS Returns Pack and Collect.

  4. Select the Pre-alert Notification check box as needed.

  5. Process the shipment.

  2. Saves and displays the shipment (noted by the icon) in the Shipment History window.

  3. Prints the Return Service Customer Receipt (if the system preference is set).

  4. Depending on the package type and Pack and Collect option you selected, the UPS driver does the following:

    1 UPS Collection Attempt –
    The UPS driver makes one attempt to bring the box and package label to the collection location and collect the goods. The UPS driver inspects the goods being returned, packs the goods in UPS-provided packaging and applies the label. If the goods cannot be collected, the driver leaves the label at the collection location and the customer gives the package to a UPS driver or drops it off at a UPS Customer Centre or an Authorised Shipping Outlet.
    3 UPS Collection Attempts –
    The UPS driver brings the box and package label to the collection location, packs the goods in UPS-provided packaging and applies the label. If the goods cannot be collected on the first attempt, the driver attempts to collect the goods on each of the next two business days. If after three attempts the goods have not been collected, the driver returns the label to UPS.

UPS Synchronised Delivery

UPS Synchronised Delivery is a contract option that allows UPS to hold a package and deliver it by the shipper-specified date. When you select this option, WorldShip will default the UPS Synchronised Delivery Deliver By Date to the current date.

Verbal Confirmation

Confirms delivery of your UPS Next Day Air® Early shipment. Someone calls and confirms when your package arrives at its destination. You must supply the contact name and telephone number of the person to receive the confirmation call.

Note: An additional charge is assessed for each request.

Weekend Collection

Ground Freight option – WorldShip displays instructions to contact UPS Freight Customer Service to schedule a collection on a UPS Freight weekend.

Weekend Commercial Delivery

Select this option for delivery of commercial shipments from US50 to US50 using Ground or 3-Day Select services on a Saturday. See: Weekend Commercial Delivery for freight shipments.
