Shipping Hazardous Materials Requirements

General Requirements for Shipping Hazardous Materials

DOT and IATA regulations both require that a person may offer or accept a hazardous material for transportation in commerce only if the material is properly prepared for transportation.

However, UPS is unable to accept all types of hazardous materials. Those materials shown as ‘Forbidden’ or ‘Not Accepted’ in the applicable UPS Chemical Table must not be offered to UPS. The entry ‘Forbidden’ means that the DOT or IATA will not allow the transport of the material, while the entry ‘Not Accepted’ means that UPS will not transport that specific material due to safety concerns.

UPS allows a maximum of three chemically compatible hazardous materials in one parcel.
