The Problem

HealthTrackRx is a premier PCR-based infectious disease laboratory, renowned for delivering next-morning infection results across the U.S. Having processed over 8 million samples since 2020, HealthTrackRx plays a pivotal role in the healthcare ecosystem by enabling providers to diagnose and treat infections swiftly and accurately. However, the rapid pace of healthcare demands continuous innovation to meet expectations and remain competitive.

"The problem today is through decades of over-prescribing broad-spectrum antibiotics, the most common pathogens have mutated to avoid effective therapy, leaving healthcare providers with fewer effective tools to treat infections’, CEO of HealthTrackRx, Martin Price explains. ‘With prompt and precise testing, we empower healthcare providers to make informed decisions about whether an antibiotic is needed at all, and if so, which will work most effectively, thereby improving patient outcomes and enhancing the overall efficiency of healthcare delivery.’

HealthTrackRx recognised the need to make a change to their existing operating logistics plan to increase the speed and reliability of their testing services.

The Solution

UPS Healthcare presented HealthTrackRx with a comprehensive solution to overhaul its logistics operations in 2022. This involved establishing a centralised high-throughput lab adjacent to the UPS Worldport® hub in Louisville, Kentucky.

Once the facility was operational, two key solutions would work together to enhance HealthTrackRx’s operating plan:

  • UPS® Pickup Point placards enhanced the pickup process at clinical collection sites with reliable, scheduled pickup times, improving efficiency and control. Once pickup times were established by the local healthcare provider, HealthTrackRx’s specimens started flowing in from all over the country through UPS Healthcare’s logistics network.

    As an example, an urgent care centre or specialised outpatient office could collect a patient specimen and automatically generate a shipment request in the digital portal. A UPS driver would then collect the package from the specified location, ensuring it reaches the airport that night enroute to the UPS WorldPort hub and HealthTrackRx’s central lab. Local providers also gained visibility over the pickup status and could monitor the shipment's progress on its way to Louisville.

  • Early A.M. Extraction through MNX Logistics (formerly UPS Express Critical) expedited shipment processing by identifying HealthTrackRx's packages early in the UPS Worldport sorting process. Once identified, these shipments are promptly extracted and handed to a dedicated courier for delivery to the lab between 1 and 4 a.m. to begin processing. This unique, highly efficient model allowed a specimen collected late in the day anywhere in the U.S. to be processed in the HealthTrackRx lab and a complete diagnostic report resulted to the patient and provider by the next morning.

The Results

The collaboration between HealthTrackRx and UPS Healthcare has yielded remarkable results since the Louisville-based lab was launched.

HealthTrackRx experienced an 80% growth* in operations since launching their Louisville-based site, solidifying their position as one of the fastest-growing diagnostic labs in the nation.
