List of Prohibited and Restricted Items for Shipping
There are certain prohibited items UPS won’t ship due to laws or regulations.
What Are Prohibited and Restricted Items?
Under applicable law, certain goods may be transported only under prescribed conditions and certain goods are prohibited from transportation.
It is the shipper´s responsibility to comply with current government regulations or laws applicable in each country. Shipments are subject to inspection and possible delay by customs or representatives of other government authorities.
We reserve the right to refuse or suspend transportation of any package which does not set out contact details for shipper and receiver and of goods.
We will not transport any goods which are prohibited by law or regulation of any federal, state, or local government in the origin or destination countries or which may breach any applicable export, import or other laws or endanger the safety of our employees, agents and subcontractors or the means of transportation.
Any shipment that is prohibited by applicable law or regulation including any federal, state, provincial, or local government in the origin or destination country will not be transported by UPS.
U.S. Tariff Terms and Conditions
Please Note: It is the responsibility of the Shipper to ensure that a Shipment tendered to UPS, and any UPS Shipping System entry that the Shipper prepares for that Shipment, does not violate any federal, state, provincial, or local laws or regulations applicable to the Shipment.
UPS Prohibited Items
Examples of items prohibited by UPS include, but are not limited to the following:
- Shipments prohibited by law
- Bank bills, notes or currency
- Common fireworks
- Hazardous waste or hazardous waste service
- Human remains, fetal remains, human body parts, human embryos or components thereof
- Ivory
- Marijuana, including marijuana intended for medical use and Cannabidoil ("CBD") derived from Marijuana
- Postage stamps
- Shark fins
- Vape products within, to or from the U.S
Also prohibited are: Goods moving under ATA Carnet and all temporary exports and imports; goods moving under FCR, FCT and CAD (Cash Against Document); Shipments with inherent vice, which by their nature are likely to soil, impair or damage persons, merchandise, or equipment; goods, the carriage of which is prohibited by law in the country of origin, transit, or destination (such as ivory); Goods which attract excise duty (ex. spirits), or which require special facilities, safety precautions or permits.

UPS Restricted Items
Certain items we list as prohibited will be accepted by UPS on a contractual basis for shippers with regular volume and the ability to comply with all applicable laws and regulations. The items we can carry under certain criteria are:
- Alcoholic beverages (See guides for shipping beer, shipping wine and shipping spirits)
- Animal products, non-domesticated (e.g., mother of pearl inlay, snakeskin watch bands)
- Articles of high/unusual value
- Ammunition (except as expressly provided in the "UPS Tariff/Terms and Conditions of Service - United States" beginning on page 136)
- Biological substances, Category B and exempt human or animal specimens
- Dangerous goods (UPS Guide for Transporting Hazardous Materials)
- Firearms and weapons (including inert and replica explosive weapons)
- Furs
- Gold or other precious metals
- Hemp and CBD
- Live animals
- Perishables
- Personal effects
- Plants and seeds require a UPS account
- Tobacco

Reselling
Under no circumstances may a Shipper sell any UPS provided materials, products, or services to any third party without prior written authorization from UPS.
UPS provided materials including, but not limited to, packaging materials and supplies, envelopes, labels, label printers, shipping documents, publications and products are provided solely for the use of UPS Shippers to obtain UPS services on their behalf and to interact with UPS. Any other use of such UPS provided materials is strictly prohibited.
UPS account holders are prohibited from permitting the use of their UPS accounts by any third party to process or tender a Shipment to UPS without prior written approval from UPS. UPS account holders are also prohibited from using their UPS accounts to process or tender a Shipment to UPS on behalf of any third party without prior written approval from UPS
Prohibited Dangerous Good/Hazardous Materials
UPS Prohibits the following Dangerous Goods/Hazardous Material in our global network:
- No hazardous waste
- No fully regulated dangerous good in return services
- No fully regulated dangerous good over the counter
Hazardous waste, defined as a solid waste that meets any of the criteria of hazardous waste as described in Title 40 C.F.R. § 261.3 of the Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) and any pertinent local regulations.
Fully regulated refers to any dangerous goods/hazardous material shipment that is required by regulations to be accompanied by a Dangerous Goods Shippers Declaration, Hazardous Material Shipping Paper, or an equivalent document under TDG, ADR or other regulations.
Please note: It is prohibited to tender shipments (including pre-processed drop offs) to a Third-Party Retailer or UPS Access Point® location containing any hazardous materials requiring shipping papers/shippers declaration, firearms, or ammunition. These prohibitions also apply to shipments delivered to a Third-Party Retailer or UPS Access Point location, except for ammunition that satisfies all requirements for the shipment of ammunition set forth in Section 3.6.2 (“Ammunition”), including qualifying for the exception for Limited Quantity/ ORM-D packages.

UPS technology simplifies international shipping so you can easily manage imports and exports. Our cross-border shipping and tracking tools help speed up delivery time and customs clearance, while maintaining compliance with trade regulations.
We recommend using three UPS solutions together: UPS TradeAbility®, Worldship® and Quantum View® Manage.
Prohibited Item Fee
UPS does not agree to carry any prohibited articles. Without prejudice to any other provision in these terms or the UPS Terms and Conditions of Carriage, if it comes to the attention of UPS that a package contains any prohibited article, you must pay to UPS an additional minimum administration fee (varies by country) in addition to any other applicable charges. Payment by you of such fee does not in any way limit or exclude your liability to UPS resulting from the breach of the UPS Terms and Conditions of Carriage nor does it mean that UPS accepts any liability, or waives any rights, in respect of such prohibited articles.
Not all commodities can be shipped to all countries.

Prohibited and Restricted Items for U.S. Import/Export
The following items may be shipped into the United States by UPS on a contractual basis only:
- Alcoholic beverages*
- Animal products, non-domesticated (e.g. mother of pearl inlay, snakeskin watchband)
- Articles of unusual value
- Biological substances, Category B and exempt human or animal specimens
- Dangerous goods
- Electronic cigarettes
- Firearms and weapons
- Furs
- Gold or other precious metals
- Live animals (e.g. fish, insects, and reptiles)
- Jewelry
- Perishables
- Personal effects
- Plants
- Seeds
- Tobacco
The following items may be shipped by UPS but are restricted to specific quantities, size and/or value:
- Dangerous goods
- Magnets

The following articles are prohibited by UPS:
- Ammunition
- Bank bills, notes or currency (other than coin)
- Corpses, cremated or disinterred remains
- Fireworks

- Ivory
- Letters of credit shipments
- Loose precious stones
- Marijuana, including marijuana intended for medicinal use
- Pornographic materials
- Postage stamps
The following items may be shipped by UPS to countries outside the United States, where service is allowed, on a contractual basis only:
- Alcoholic beverages*
- Animal products, non-domesticated (e.g. mother of pearl inlay, snakeskin watchband)
- Articles of unusual value
- Biological substances, Category B and exempthuman or animal specimens
- Dangerous goods
- Electronic cigarettes
- Firearms and weapons
- Furs
- Gold or other precious metals
- Industrial diamonds
- Live animals (e.g. fish, insects, and reptiles)
- Loose precious stones
- Jewelry
- Perishables
- Personal effects
- Plants

The following items may be shipped by UPS but are restricted to specific quantities, size and/or value:
- Dangerous goods
- Magnets
